There is arguably nothing better than waking up at 8 AM to the sounds of a full-fledged Porsche Carrera Cup Race quite literally steps away. Heads are constantly on a swivel with a plethora of vehicles that defy expectations of what is deemed possible. Throughout the entire weekend, mechanical prestige and automotive excellence were on full display. The skill and mentality of these competitors is something to appreciate as many spectators struggle to grasp the forces of the sport. Who in their right mind holds flat out through a turn going over 210Km/h? Through rain, immense heat, and everything in between; The Glen’s six-hour marathon measured every ounce of driver notoriety.
Watkins Glen On-Board Lap // LMP2 Driver: Dane Cameron // #99 AO Racing // Spike
This onboard lap bleeds brilliance. Commentary by Dane Cameron provides us with a taste of what it would look like to be behind the wheel of one of these marvels. From the apex hiding in turn one, to immediately pinning the accelerator through the esses at above 250Km/h. This lap fortifies motorsports as one of the most underappreciated category of professional sports. Dane Cameron handles this visceral weapon on wheels with a level of finesse and poise that is admirable. While attention is pulled to the addictive driving abilities being displayed, 3.37 miles of Watkins Glen asphalt is being torn up resulting in a 1 minute 34 second lap time. Bliss, excitement, and thrill are all words used to describe the experience of observing these vehicles on the tarmac. Turn 6 all the way to turn 9 are some of the most demanding, yet rewarding sections of the track, depending on how you can piece the sector together. Watkins Glen is an outstanding track with tons of pace and generous passing opportunities on both the straights and turns. Who doesn't love Watkins?
